There’s a delicious new flavor coming to New York City. Tipsy Scoop, the eponymous brand behind ice cream spiked with liquor, is opening up their first retail space in Manhattan in early spring.
Though you may have thought you’ve had your fill novelty cuisine experiences between cronuts and raw cookie dough, Tipsy Scoop is a transformative experience that you have to try. Small batch ice cream is blended with custom liquors and spirits to make a dessert that will make you tipsy...and wanting more. Tipsy Scoop’s ice creams and sorbets actually contain alcohol, so you must be 21 or older to purchase and ID is required! If it sounds too delicious to be true, it comes as no surprise that something as decadent as Tipsy Scoop should make its home in the city of dreams.
Founded three years ago by Melissa Tavss, a sixth generation ice cream connoisseur and the great-granddaughter of the former President of the Ice Cream Alliance of Great Britain, Tavss brings a thorough understanding of the art of ice cream to us in Manhattan.
Having extensive experience with the liquor industry after having a career in marketing for various liquor brands, Tavss was inspired to craft specialty ice cream flavors after seeing her clients request caterers to make different confections with their alcohol.
Infusing traditional ice cream flavors with different liquors allowed Tavss to create “creamy, tipsy and delicious treats” -- and we aren’t the only ones who think so. Showing up everywhere from The New York Times to Business Insider and Real Simple, Tipsy Scoop is ready to take on Manhattan and they have gained a devoted following along the way.
Launching their scoop shop came at the behest of their fans, who were showing up in droves to Tipsy Scoop’s East Harlem production facility on a quest to buy some boozy ice cream. Realizing that their factory couldn’t adequately host all those looking for a scoop of bliss, Tavss started working with Mizuka Murai and Michael Grabelsky of Oxford Property Group in late 2016 to identify a space to call their new home.
217 East 26th Street in Kips Bay is where you’ll need to visit Tipsy Scoop this spring. Tipsy Scoop will be opening a shop that will be reminiscent of a bar combined with an ice cream store. Excited yet? They will be offering over fifteen different flavors, with each being hand crafted in their New York City facility.
