Oxford and the Clock Tower

One of New York City’s greatest landmarks is in the process of getting purchased, and George Torres, Oxford agent and part of #teammoof, is the agent making it happen for his buyer. Nestled atop of the landmarked Eagle Warehouse is an impeccable 1BR/1BA. While there are incredible views of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the East River, what makes this deal unforgettable is the home also encompasses the clock, measuring 10 feet in diameter, which makes this building a landmark throughout New York City and beyond.

Crossing the East River into Brooklyn, it is the impressive clock’s facade that greets everyone making their way over the Brooklyn Bridge. Built in 1892, the building was formerly the home to a well-known local newspaper called the Brooklyn Eagle. Today, the building houses 85 residential units, having been converted in 1980.

Now known as the Eagle Co-op, the amenities in the building include bike storage, a newly renovated fitness center, and lobby, plus a doorman, live-in super, and an on-site manager. Oxford agent George Torres was contacted by a potential buyer in California, who saw the listing on Zillow and fell in love. As part of the Zillow Premier Agent leads program, George is put in contact with potential buyers who reach out when they see a property they are interested in learning more about. Since the buyer was so far away and not able to visit New York City during the pandemic, George arranged for a FaceTime tour and a Zoom meeting.

Those interactions went smoothly, with the buyer able to ask the seller questions and see the apartment in real-time. With a listing price at $2.3M, George was able to negotiate on behalf of his client and the deal will close at $2.15M. The board package is currently in review and George expects that everything will close quickly.

The clock is maintained by the co-op building, which pays for repairs that are needed. After Superstorm Sandy, the clock hands sustained damage which resulted in the installation of new, upgraded, and reinforced clock hands by the co-op. The clock has a glass facade, which is able to be opened like windows.

Similarly, the living room and bedroom both have a huge skylight overhead, and the shades open with controls, letting in a tremendous amount of sunshine. The renovated kitchen is complimented by the spacious bedroom which has heated flooring and exposed brick walls. The bathroom has an incredible soaking tub and that is tiled in Indian slate.
