Cycling in the City

Cyclists in New York City have a second home at Danny’s Cycles. Established in 1967, the bike shop is celebrating its 50th year in business and is on its third generation in a thriving, family-owned business. With roots in Scarsdale, New York and with 12 shops throughout NYC and up through Stamford, Connecticut, Danny’s Cycles is one of Manhattan’s best bike shops and they are ready to get you on the road!

While biking in NYC generally slows down in the colder months, it is also the perfect time to start thinking about the warmer weather and all of the biking adventures that await you. Steve Kahn, President of Danny’s Cycles, urges cyclists to stay active during the winter months, so they’re ready to hop back on their bikes once spring comes.

“It’s easy to stop biking during the northeast winters, and that makes it a lot harder to start cycling again,” Kahn said.   “To make the transition easier, it’s great when people use a trainer with their bikes inside their homes or make sure to go to the gym to stay active,” he added.   Offering everything from sales to rentals, repairs and tune-ups, Danny’s Cycles is a great destination for everyone who loves riding their bike in Manhattan. Danny’s Cycles always offers free estimates and inspections for bikes, so you can find out what you need to do to get back on the road quickly. With repairs on bikes generally taking less than a day to complete.     Cycling in New York City has never been better -- with bike lanes well-established in many neighborhoods and major parks a destination for any cyclist, now is the best time to start thinking about what new trails you might like to discover.   To get you and your bike ready for your next trip, Danny’s Cycles offers free maintenance classes on the last Thursday of every month and you can check out dannyscycles.com for the schedule of events near you!   The maintenance class offers a refresher on how to keep your bike in tip-top shape. Reviewing how to clean, inspect and lubricate your bike, the class has anywhere from 4-12 attendees and focuses on keeping your bike in good working order. Keeping up on this maintenance will keep your ride in good shape, allowing the cleaned parts to move more freely.   “For more complicated repairs, it’s better to bring the bike into the shop. But keeping up on the maintenance of the bike goes a long way to preventing bigger issues,” Kahn said.   Danny’s Cycles’ calendar is updated with events and activities that the shop has going on, including the maintenance class or as the weather warms up, organized group rides. From city tours to more rustic views, Danny’s Cycles puts together road and mountain rides -- they make sure they have something for everyone.
